Did you know...
The country of Mauritius includes the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues as well as a number of outer islands. Mauritius has a rich history linked to various cultures including the French, Portuguese, Dutch, Arabs and British and the island's capital city of Port Louis was established in 1736 by the French East India Company. Mauritius is the only African country to have a Hindu majority.
Le Morne on the South Coast of the Island Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean, is the perfect destination for a multi watersports holiday. Here you can throw yourself into a variety of sports including SUPing (Stand Up Paddleboarding), Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, and Surfing. The lagoon is perfect for learning to SUP or just leisurely days on the water while there are a handful of close by surf breaks, with everything from spots where kids can begin, to powerful, down the line waves such as 'One Eye' only for the most experienced and definitely not faint-hearted.
A SUP holiday in Le Morne combines predictable conditions with outstanding natural beauty. “Mauritius was made first, and then heaven; and heaven was copied after Mauritius” wrote Mark Twain.
Le Morne is a really friendly place and has a very chilled vibe, with a big emphasis on watersports, and evenings are spent sipping cocktails and reviving for the following day. Needless to say, it's not a party town, but somewhere you can feel a million miles away from the crazy pace of real life.
On the East Coast of Mauritius, 1km south from Belle Mare village, lays the picturesque beach of Belle Mare. World-renowned for being an incredibly beautiful beach, offering a multitude of watersports, it is recognised by water lovers from around the world. Belle Mare is known as being a ‘must visit’ SUP destination, not only for the predictable wave conditions but also for the outstanding beauty you experience when gliding over the crystal clear waters of Mauritius.
What makes Belle Mare really special is the multitude of activities to participate in throughout your SUP holiday, ensuring you will never experience ‘boredom’ on your SUP holiday with flat, uncrowded water, a closed turquoise lagoon, no currents and no boat traffic. There are also plenty of excursions and ‘downwinders’ to keep you entertained throughout your stay. Our centre on the East Coast is really passionate about stand up paddleboarding - they have a list of downwinders and excursions which they regularly run. Each one is planned and is listed by difficulty and length.
Unlike many places in the world, SUP has not yet taken over the East Coast of Mauritius, so you can be assured of peace on the water by having the spots to yourself, and not have to fight other paddle boarders for waves. Having said this, it’s only a matter of time, so make the most of it NOW!
